Located in the iconic A’DAM Tower on the banks of the IJ River in Amsterdam, the Sir Adam Hotel is a cultural, artistic, and culinary hotspot and a mecca for music lovers.
Built in 1971, the iconic A’DAM Tower was designed by the architect Arthur Staal as a commission by Royal Dutch Shell. It was occupied by the multinational oil company until 2009 when it underwent a massive renovation and was transformed into an iconic multifunctional tower. It reopened in 2016 and is now home to a mix of offices, cafés, restaurants, an observation point, a revolving restaurant and the Sir Adam Hotel.
The tower overlooks the IJ River in an area described by The New York Times as the city’s “red-hot art neighbourhood”. The name of the tower, A’DAM, stands for ‘Amsterdam Dance and Music’, which reflects the business of the owners and main tenants including internationally renowned guitar manufacturer Gibson, music and entertainment companies MassiveMusic and ID&T, and a medley of young creative companies with a passion for music.
Sir Adam occupies the first 8 floors of the A’DAM Tower, and the 108 luxury guest rooms have unparalleled views of the city as well as a strong focus on entertainment. Rooms feature a Crosley Cruiser record player, electric guitar, Bluetooth-enabled flat-screen TV, curated works from local artists, mirrors etched with song lyrics, custom furniture and lighting, and oversized rain showers.
Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure plenty of daylight and when it gets dark, a view of Amsterdam's famous nightlife below can be enjoyed. Floating, cantilevered desks and window benches maintain the continuity of floor-to-ceiling glass.
Icrave, the renowned New York-based design studio, is responsible for the guestrooms and a “living lobby” called The Butcher Social Club. Icrave embraced the original shell of the building and left the raw concrete columns and ceilings exposed.
The mezzanine level includes a “music library” with carefully curated tracks and elsewhere, creative studios are available where guests can collaborate. The hotel also includes a state-of-the-art gym, and the Forbidden Garden.
Sir Adam is a member of Design Hotels.
