Iconic Tolix

Posted on Aug 30, 2013 by

The chances are that you’ll have seen the Tolix classic “A” chair many times before – it’s a true and timeless modern design classic. The chair was designed in 1934 by metalworker Xavier Pauchard, who first brought the steel galvanising process to France. The chairs had originally been intended for use in factories or on ships, but soon began to appear outside cafes and brasseries across France…and it’s for this reason that they’re often referred to as the Tolix cafe chair or the Marais A chair. Hardwearing and matter-of-fact in design, the chairs look fantastic both indoors and outside. The galvanised versions are a particularly good way to rock the industrial look but the painted chairs are a great way to channel industrial and inject some colour into a space. Made In Design stock an incredible selection of Tolix A chairs and armchairs in a whole variety of colours. Our tip: try mixing and matching the chairs around a table to add extra interest and for a more informal look.
