Blog/Carriage House In South Carolina

a minimalist kitchen scheme complements original brick and exposed beams

Multidisciplinary design firm Workstead has designed a contemporary interior for a converted Carriage House in Charleston, South Carolina.

Caned cypress cabinets and reclaimed pine flooring complement raw plaster and original brickwork in this converted Carriage House in Charleston, South Carolina.

Formerly referred to as the ‘Bee Store’ the historical building was meticulously restored by the owners, a father-and-son team who later engaged multidisciplinary design studio Workstead to complete the interior.

With three bedrooms and three bathrooms distributed over two floors, the 200 sq ft space stands as a perfectly executed blend of old and new. In the kitchen, sleek black cabinetry makes a bold statement against existing heritage elements such as white painted beams and original brick. While in a continuum throughout, artisan woodworker Clay Richardson has inserted elegant caned panels and boards of cypress.
