One of my favourite things about blogging is being asked for personal recommendations. At the weekend, my friend asked me to suggest a bed or headboard for her East London warehouse conversion. She was, in her own words, looking for a headboard that was “simple but stylish, wooden, understated but different…something that will complement a loft look”. I recently came across this fantastic headboard from Lombok and it seems to fit the bill perfectly. And I thought I’d share it with you all too, because it’s such a great piece.
Sumatra king headboard, £545, Lombok
The Sumatra headboard from Lombok epitomises everything I love about salvaged wood furniture. It’s crafted from hardwearing reclaimed Indonesian teak floorboards which are actually over 100 years old and have been lightly distressed, stripped and waxed to emphasise the natural grain of the wood. With its simple lines, slatted finish and beautiful texture, the headboard will make a statement in any bedroom, but will look particularly striking if you are lucky enough to have exposed brickwork or other warehouse features. At 165cm in width and 145cm in height, the headboard fits a kingsize bed and is the perfect height for leaning back with the paper on a Sunday morning. Our tip: why not team the headboard with these retro metal clip on lights from Rockett St George, which are ideal for bedtime reading. Crisp white or natural coloured linen will look particularly smart against the wooden headboard and soften the overall look.
Named after the idyllic Indonesian island, Lombok specialises in furniture that has been handmade from natural, responsibly sourced materials by skilled craftsmen.
