Shipping Container Designs By Onske

Posted on Sep 10, 2015 by

Decommissioned shipping containers that once travelled the globe are being repurposed worldwide for innovative architectural schemes. The sizeable steel cuboids are sustainable, secure and relocatable, making them practical building blocks.

At the 25hours Hotel Hafencity in Hamburg, home to the world’s largest warehouse district, shipping containers have been imaginatively utilised to house meeting space…and even a sauna! Wooden crates, floor markings resembling those of a working shipyard also serve to reinforce the connection to the city’s seafaring heritage.

Naturally, we’re fans of the current trend for industrial crate and container inspired furniture for the home. And we featured some unique and original designs in Warehouse Home Issue Two. The latest in quirky cargo style comes from Onske, who have released a range of colourful homeware accessories inspired by heavy-duty haulage.

Onske’s Container Key Cabinet, available in red, blue and turquoise, is a small and subtle way to bring the cargo trend into your home. Meanwhile, the Container Wastepaper Bin is a tongue-in-cheek solution for your home office or study.

A side table, a storage space, a decorative piece; the Container Side Table has a lot of positives! Available in red or blue, it’s far easier and much more cost-effective than trying to squeeze an actual shipping container into your home. And it will look great against brickwork or concrete.

All of the pieces in the Container inspired range from Onske are manufactured in Germany by Werkhaus, who produce functional items made from medium density fibreboard, eco-friendly materials and an original rubber connecting system. They all arrive flat-packed, and can be snapped and locked together in minutes.
