May Design Series: What’s On
With over 500 brands showcasing their work across three days, there is so much to see at May Design Series this year. If, like us, you don’t want to miss out on the best of British craftsmanship, innovative talent and industrial chic furniture, continue reading to find out what’s new at this leading design festival.
Over recent months, we’ve seen a renewed appreciation for craftsmanship, a clear reaction to mass production and a throwaway society. The Designer Makers event at May Design Series returns with a bang for 2015, providing a platform for the UK’s top creators. And this year, the event will showcase unique and unusual bespoke products from exhibitors such as Blott Works, British Artist Jack and Kate Noakes, to name just a few.
You’ll remember independent design studio Blott Works from the launch issue of Warehouse Home. We can’t wait to see the three brand new products they’ll be revealing at May Design Series. Imaginative artist/engineers Andy and Dan transform machine components into original functional sculptures with a remarkable refinement and beauty. Of the new works they’ll be unveiling, ‘Tree’ is a decorative lamp featuring three copper reflectors and ‘Hawk’ is inspired by birds of prey and cranes found on construction sites. It is this unique play between nature and manufacturing that we think will make Blott Works a show highlight.
New for 2015, the Artisans With Light feature section focuses on handcrafted lighting. Seamlessly blending vintage style with industrial chic design, it’s no surprise that The Light Yard’s Alchemist Collection immediately appealed to the Warehouse Home team! At once contemporary and minimalist yet with a nod to vintage industrial, there’s no question that these wall and table lamps would look amazing in a warehouse conversion or loft apartment.
Finally, let’s talk kitchens. Surface company COMPAC have created a new quartz worktop finish inspired by New York’s loft culture. The New York collection is available in three minimalist-friendly concept colours; White Zement, Ice Zement and Grey Zement. We can certainly imagine pulling up a stool at the breakfast bar in this stylish New York loft!
