Kitchen Design Inspiration

Posted on Feb 10, 2015 by

I’ve started 2015 with a determination to finally update our kitchen. It’s a fairly standard shaped galley style kitchen and, typical of so many London homes, space is severely restricted. So clever cupboards and storage solutions are certainly the order of the day. But my husband and I love to cook. And most of our happiest evenings are spent together in the kitchen, polishing off a bottle of wine (or two) whilst navigating our way through a recipe. It really is the heart of our home so, while we need to think in practical terms for a redesign, we want it to be a really stylish space too. So, I’ve taken to Pinterest for inspiration. Here are some of my favourite kitchen design ideas so far.

This is a beautiful grey kitchen (below). The brass fittings enhance the modern luxe effect.

The brass hardware and lightly coloured marble worktop add a touch of industrial luxe to this beautiful grey kitchen.

Classic grey kitchen with industrial chic shelves, factory lighting and Scandinavian style touches

I love this perfectly balanced kitchen / dining area. The open industrial style shelves and vintage factory light complement the white subway tiles and light grey kitchen cabinets. The light wood of the flooring and chairs keeps the space feeling light and contemporary.

If you need any more proof that brushed brass looks so beautiful in a kitchen, particularly teamed with white and marble…well, here it is.

I am obsessed with white subway tiles! I’m sure they’ll find a way into my new kitchen. But looking at these lighter schemes, I think I’m leaning towards something darker for my home. I’ve got a bit of a bee in my bonnet about revealing the original brickwork behind the hob. Wouldn’t that look amazing against black cabinets?

This bespoke deVOL kitchen is handcrafted, with smart matt black units. While a reclaimed timber floor complements the black kitchen cabinets, brass fittings and a marble worktop bring a touch of luxe to modern rustic.

If your kitchen is small, like ours, there’s still no reason why you can’t embrace a dark colour scheme. I think the kitchen below demonstrates how glamorous and gorgeous that can look. Up the ante with brushed brass hardware or copper pans.

The distinctive brick-shaped subway tile is available in a number of colours as well as black. Teamed with brass hardware and lighting, the black tiles and cabinets in this kitchen create a strong industrial luxe look.

But, if you’re not convinced by dark kitchens, why not adopt a half-and-half scheme, with dark floor cabinets and lighter wall units or shelves.

Pair black floor units with white wall cabinets or shelves for a bold monochrome scheme and to maintain a lighter effect in your kitchen.

And if you need colour in your life, then pick one and go all out with it! This warehouse home (below) has beautiful exposed brickwork in the kitchen, forming a striking backdrop to the turquoise blue cabinets and industrial style furniture. industrial style kitchen with exposed brickwork and blue cabinets

Exposed brickwork gives a raw industrial edge to this kitchen, complemented by the vintage industrial machinists’ stools at the breakfast bar. The open shelving and blue kitchen cabinets, by contrast, keep the space looking bright and welcoming.
