Blue Ticking & Original Kids Furniture
Several of our readers have contacted us recently asking for advice on industrial, vintage and reclaimed items of furniture that would be suitable for their children’s rooms. So, in response, we’re delighted to be launching a new dedicated Children’s Rooms section on mywarehousehome.com. And we have the perfect people to help us kick off. Surrey-based husband and wife team Helen and John set up Blue Ticking because they struggled to find original items of furniture for their young children’s bedrooms. They soon found that this was a frustration widely shared. After a successful first year, Blue Ticking has firmly established itself offering an eclectic collection of largely vintage and lovingly refurbished furniture for little people. Many items feature at least a touch of blue ticking fabric, which inspired the company’s name. If you live in a warehouse home or loft apartment or are simply looking for unique and unusual furniture for your little one’s room, then look no further. The ever-changing Blue Ticking collection is singular, quirky, charming and sure to evoke fond childhood memories as you create a special and stylish space for your children.
These metal and canvas stackable chairs have so much original vintage character that Blue Ticking have done nothing more than give them a good scrub and polish. We think they’re full of charm – and they certainly wouldn’t look out of place in the most stylish warehouse home or loft apartment.

Blue Ticking also have 2 of these tubular steel chairs. With green metal frames and distressed ivory painted wooden seat and back, they have a great vintage industrial look.

This vintage red wooden topped metal legged table also caught my eye when I was looking through the current Blue Ticking collection. Blue Ticking have given the wooden tabletop a fresh coat of smart red paint but I love the contrast with the patina on the metal framework. This little table would make a great bedside table, with plenty of space for a lamp and books, or it pairs very well with the metal legged chairs above as a little dining set.

Originally part of a bigger unit, this storage drawer has been given a complete makeover with a lick or two of Farrow & Ball paint and the addition of castors. The interior of the drawer has been thoughtfully finished with a charming insect paper. A particularly smart addition to a little boy’s room, this storage drawer is a great place for tidying away books, toys and games and, because of its size and the fact that it’s on wheels, it slides easily under the bed too for space saving. There is a second drawer in complementary colours.

This vintage school desk offers plenty of storage space beneath its lid. Its old ink pot holder makes a great place to hold pencils and felt tip pens or a little water pot for painting. Whether you like the functional nature of this desk or it reminds you of your own time at school, it will make a super addition to your child’s room.
