Interior Decor Inspiration – Tile Panels

Posted on Mar 2, 2015 by

This stunning loft apartment in a former silk factory in Spello, Italy, has provided us with plenty of “pinspiration” this week. It was beautifully styled for hotelier Andrea Falkner Campi by award-winning Italian interior designer Paola Navone. One of the most eye-catching features is the panel of hexagonal tiles set into the wooden floor of the open-plan living-dining space. The floor tiles not only contrast strikingly with the surrounding wood, they effectively highlight a separate function of that space, dining.

Geometric shapes and traditional designs draw the eye in a minimalist scheme. The hexagonal tiles above have been randomly laid, in keeping with the relaxed and understated interior. The muted shades of grey compliment the monochrome scheme and bright white walls of the converted loft. Wrought iron hairpin legs and a worn, rustic dining table really complete the look.

In addition to serving an obvious practical purpose, the monochrome patterned tiles (above)  – again randomly laid – mark out the entrance to an open wet room. Meanwhile (below), they create a focal point of a traditional slipper bath.

The lovely thing about these tile panels is that they can be used in so many different ways. We liked the look so much, we went on a little Pinterest hunt to dig out some further examples of how the technique can be artfully employed throughout the home.

Tile panels are a beautifully simple yet eye-catching way to draw attention to a specific area of a room through the injection of colour, pattern and contrasting materials. Give your home the Paola Navone touch with hexagonal or monochrome tiles. The patterned tile panel makes a lovely feature of the island unit in this kitchen.

The owner of this home has clearly channelled Paula Navone’s style with their tiled entranceway feature.
