Industrial Luxe Design From New Works

Posted on Mar 21, 2015 by

We would love to get our hands on these concrete candleholders from New Works. A new Copenhagen design house, New Works combine their Scandinavian sensibility with love of raw industrial materials. Their collection focuses on materials such as concrete, marble and raw metals, with all of the pieces sourced from up-and-coming Scandi designers.

David Taylor has designed the New Works Crowd candleholders, a beautiful trio of industrial accessories. Taylor apparently loves working with industrial materials because they inspire the construction process. This is clear from his finished works, each candleholder almost sculpture-like and transforming a difficult material like concrete into an elegant home accessory.

This Moira Mesh Crowd Candleholder features a brass base in on-trend mesh, and the distressed concrete evokes the appearance of a burned candle. We love the contrast and balance between the sturdy concrete and the delicate metal that makes this candleholder so striking.

For a sleeker design, have a look at the Tall Stuart (below). The Tall Stuart has been crafted from a more refined, smooth concrete block mounted on a simple wooden base and is topped with a beaten copper and wood candleholder.

Rough Billy combines a very deliberately rough concrete structure and an elegant copper base. We love the play with scales, the top-heavy appearance of this design and the contrasting industrial and luxe materials.

But why pick a favourite? There’s no question that the candleholders look most striking when they’re displayed together as a trio.
