Contemporary Design at CDW 2015

Posted on May 18, 2015 by

Clerkenwell Design Week is almost upon us, which means it’s time for both established names and emerging talent to showcase hero products and launch new items. As a 2015 Media Partner for Clerkenwell Design Week, which opens tomorrow, we’ve been eagerly awaiting everything this year’s event has in store. And boy, does it have a lot in store!

Clerkenwell Design Week 2015 is set to be a vibrant display, as bold and playful colours and graphic shapes steal the show. 2015 sees another jam-packed programme of events taking place in showrooms and venues across Clerkenwell. Watch out for an abundance of creativity, innovative spirit and precise craftsmanship as we outline some of the key brands participating in the event.

International and esteemed brands will once again gather at Design Factory to showcase the best in contemporary furniture, lighting and product design. Taking up position this year in the atmospheric Farmiloe Building are husband and wife design duo Baines&Fricker. They will be launching the BF02 Series. Inspired by church pew benches, the BF02 series is a line of furniture in playful primary colours and in 5 different dimensions to suit any room.

Clean graphic lines and Scandinavian influences define And Then Design, an East London furniture studio. We have a soft spot for these stackable Kai chairs, constructed from powder coated wire and available in a variety of colours.

And Then Design will be launching a new dining collection at Design Factory, incorporating a palette of walnut, marble, brass and copper. The new finishes will also be applied to classic pieces, such as these Etienne chairs. We love how they’ve been styled here with a power-coated aluminium Flora light, which is also new for 2015.

German manufactures Vitamin Design will also be showcasing at Design Factory. Their beautifully crafted furniture collections emphasise sustainable design, functionality and timeless style. Nominated for the German Design Award 2016, this beautifully finished and extendable butterfly table is a work of art. Enabling more flexible living, the butterfly table would make a practical addition to any contemporary home where space is at a premium.

Also launching at Design Factory is a new range of Copper & Silk lamps. You may remember the designer lighting brand from our launch issue. Our pick from the new Copper & Silk collection is the ‘Manhattan’ – a lamp base crafted from solid sheet metal with a luxe finish. We think it would make a striking yet understated addition to any warehouse home.

Also showcasing lighting in the Farmiloe Building are Holloways of Ludlow, who will be launching exclusive designs from several brands, including their own, Old School Electric, and new addition Officine Dasa. These Cubit spotlights from Officine Dasa are such an unusual take on industrial chic!

A vintage industrial classic! Old School Electric never disappoints, and we look forward to the launch of their new striking factory shades with a luxe finish.

The devil is in the detail over at Additions, the Clerkenwell Design Week exhibition focusing on small but perfectly formed products. The showcase will take place in the Crypt on the Green, in the heart of Clerkenwell, and you will include a number of unique and quirky home accessories and an array of innovative ideas.

Portuguese product designer Helena Ambrósio creates geometric porcelain vases that are fragile and almost resemble origami in appearance. In Helena’s own words, her Pleated #02 design demonstrates her design process from every point of view and creates an optical illusion of movement. We think the vessels would like amazing in an industrial chic scheme – particularly in this vibrant yellow. Helena will be launching new colours at Clerkenwell Design Week – lacquer red, porcelain blue and cool grey.

Other exciting exhibitions include Detail, the luxury pop-up in the Priory church, and Platform, which gives emerging designers the chance to express themselves on the international stage.

There’s more news than we can possibly squeeze into this post. So why not make time to visit Clerkenwell Design Week (19th-21st May 2015) to soak up all of the design inspiration and enjoy the many events and showcases taking place throughout the 3-day event.

The second issue of Warehouse Home will go to print shortly. But in the meantime, you can enjoy our launch issue in full here or by clicking in the reader below.
