2 Clever Modern Rustic Upcycled Designs
There is a distinctly modern rustic influence at the air at the moment. Whether you live in a warehouse conversion or a country home with industrial decor, rich reclaimed woods, leather and metal are an ideal combination. But some creative makers are taking the modern rustic trend further, with imaginative designs that combine farm and factory, rustic and warehouse.
Perhaps the autumn chill and the turning of the leaves makes us think of the countryside. Certainly, inspirational homes like this (above) prove how successful an industrial-rustic scheme can be.
These two clever creations, by Sugden and Daughters and Refunk’d, were both crafted from hay racks. The heavy-duty farmyard feeders have been given a new lease of life – and put to a very different purpose – with the addition of reclaimed timber…and a lot of elbow grease!
The Hay Feeder Table by Sugden and Daughters started its life as an old hay bale feeder and has been transformed into a striking and sturdy side table. As it’s wall mounted, it takes up a lot less space and is therefore ideally suited to the hallway. Its compact size (82.5cm x 44cm x 54cm) also makes it well suited to smaller guest bedrooms and studies. Alternatively, why not use Sugden and Daughter’s hay feeder table in your bathroom – and hang freshly laundered towels from its metal frame?

Our second find is this quirky chair, crafted by expert upcyclers Refunk’d. ‘Ned’ comprises a high back, formed from a metal hayrack, and a solid wooden seat from a reclaimed cable drum. The tapered metal legs were also cleverly salvaged, to complete this striking industrial chair. At 115cm tall, it will make a real statement sitting proudly at the head of a rustic wooden table or as an imaginative alternative to a gentleman’s chair in the study.
